Hostile Force

Hostile Force The final project for my Flash/Actionscript course was to create a Flash game from a set of requirements such as: use a preloader, load a video, use sound effects, use OOP logic, etc. My group decided to make a game inspired by "Soldat" (www.soldat.pl), a 2D side scrolling shooter.

I think the game turned out pretty good considering the short timespan of the project, and I had alot of fun creating it with my group.

Digging Game Demo

Digging Game This is a small game I decided to create one day that involves a boomerang-throwing turtle digging his way into the earth. He throws boomerangs to break blocks horizontally, and smashes the ground with his hammer to break blocks vertically. I plan on making this into an actual game, but this is what I have done so far.

This cool thing about this demo is that blocks are dynamically added to the bottom of the screen as the turtle progresses further, so there is no bottom to the world. Additionally, this game uses spritesheets for all of the objects, which in hindsight is somewhat harder than using movieclips, but still workable.

Music Visualizer Demo

Music Visualizer This demo features a simple music visualizer, similar to the one in Windows Media Player. I created this demo after being inspired by a fellow classmate from Algonquin College, Robert Kirkwood, who did something similar.

The demo not only analizes sound, but also makes use of Flash CS3's bitmap filters to create effects such as blurs and glows.

Growing Vines Demo

Growing Vines In this demo, a set of four vines begin growing out of the ground and up towards the sky. As they grow, they also get thicker, and occasionally, they sprout leaves. I tried to make the vines growth and movement look as organic as possible, without going overboard. Also, the vines will correct their angle of growth in order to stay within the boundaries of the stage.

The vines make use of the Flash CS3 bitmap filters in order to grow thicker, by using the glow filter with a clever configuration. The leaves are separate bitmap graphics, whose position is adjusted each frame in order to stay on the outside of the vine.
